Stress day by day due to changing lifestyle is inviting many diseases
Diseases like glaucoma are also caused by stress. 20 percent of 100 patients between 25 and 50 years of age are facing a disease like glaucoma due to stress.
Glaucoma is a disease caused by increased pressure inside the eye due to malfunctioning or improper formation of the fluid drainage structure of the eye. If not treated in time, elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) damages the optic nerve and retinal fibers and can lead to progressive, permanent blindness. A liquid substance called aqueous humor is constantly being produced in the eyes. This fluid acts to lubricate some parts of the eye.
Fluid is absorbed into the blood vessels. A proper balance is maintained between its production and its absorption. The pressure created by this solution on the eye is called intraocular pressure. Working night shifts, lack of sleep, busy lifestyle and poor nutrition can lead to stress-induced glaucoma as the intraocular pressure (IOP) i.e. fluid pressure inside the eye is determined by the patient's stress.
In recent times there has been a 2% increase in glaucoma patients. 3 out of 100 cases have primary open-angle glaucoma (acute glaucoma) and 0.3% have closed-angle glaucoma. Heredity, age and stress are factors that invite glaucoma. Today, patients visiting the hospital are experiencing glaucoma symptoms as well as increased intraocular pressure.
Making the right lifestyle changes is definitely helpful in overall health as well as in diseases like glaucoma. Sleep, exercise, inclusion of fruits, green leafy vegetables in diet, inclusion of natural vitamins, consumption of green tea and addictions like smoking, alcohol, tobacco destroys eye veins. So no medicine has any effect. Mental stress affects the venous blood supply to the eyes.
